When used as nouns, assign means the assignee and transfer is the act of removing or conveying something from one person, thing, or place to another. Transfer generally refers to titles whereas assignment is used with obligations and rights.

Use of the Recordation System is optional and is governed by 37 CFR § 201.4(h) and the Special Pilot Program Rules.

Recording a transfer of copyright ownership or other document pertaining to a copyright with the Copyright Office under 17 U.S.C. § 205 is voluntary.

In case of original literary, dramatic, musical, and artistic works the time period of copyright in India is 60 years in addition to the author's lifespan. Where there are multiple authors, the term is 60 years post the death of the last author.
