Open Word, click More Templates → on the right side of the screen. In the search bar, type in "legal" and click search. One of the templates that that may be the most useful is the Legal pleading paper. Note: You should be able to follow these directions and find the same templates in both Windows and Mac.

Go to Layout and choose the Size option. There, you'll find a Legal option that will format your document in the 8.5 x 14 inch size. Ideally, you want to resize your document before changing other formatting, since the size of the paper can have significant impact on other elements of the document, as well.

You'll want to start with a standard page size (8.5 x 11 inches) with 1-inch margins. Keep the font simple, such as Times New Roman, and avoid the use of color. Remember to break up text with headers and paragraphs for readability.

Important points to include in a legal document. Party details. List the names, numbers, addresses (email or physical), and any other relevant information of all parties involved. Background information. Motion. Roles and responsibilities. Breaches or contingencies. Dates and signatures.

Most controls that support being set as required have a Cannot be blank check box in the Control Properties dialog box. By selecting this check box, you make the field for the control a required field.

Go to File > New. In the Search for online templates field, type Forms or the kind of form you want. Then press Enter. In the displayed results, right-click any item, then select Create.

After inserting a form field, click the Properties button to get its properties dialog, which is different from the one for content controls. Put the field's name in the "Bookmark" box -- that name is what the macro will use to identify the field. In the Exit dropdown, select the name of the macro (MustFillIn).

Open the form that you want to lock or protect. Select Developer > Restrict Editing. After selecting restrictions, select Yes, Start Enforcing Protection.

The best way to indicate a required field is to include the word 'required' as part of the label. Many forms use a red asterisk, '', in the label. The asterisk is often not announced to screen reader users because it's considered punctuation.
