Teens 14 or 15 years old have the most stringent hour restrictions. During the school year, minors in this age group may work a maximum of three hours per day while school is in session and no more than 18 hours during the week.

Effective July 1, 2021, schools will no longer issue work permits for minor employees (under age 18). Instead, employers who employ five or more minor employees will now be responsible for tracking and reporting minor-employee information via the state's Youth Employment System (YES).

Younger Teens However, they can work as many as eight hours a day when school is not in session and a maximum of 40 hours during a non-school week. Also, work hours are limited to between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. The time frame extends to 9 p.m. from June 1 through Labor Day.

A youth 18 years or older may perform any job, whether hazardous or not. A youth 16 or 17 years old may perform any non-hazardous job. (See the list of hazardous occupations below.) A youth 14 and 15 years old may not work in the manufacturing or mining industries, or in any hazardous job.
