Document properties, also known as metadata, are details about a file that describe or identify it. They include details such as title, author name, subject, and keywords that identify the document's topic or contents.

Matter has two types of properties: physical and chemical. Physical properties can be observed without changing the identity of the substance. Examples of physical properties are color, density, and hardness. Properties that describe how matter changes into a completely new, different substance are chemical properties.

There are two types of document properties: predefined and custom. Predefined properties are metadata fields stored in many file formats. An example of this is the Primary author, which is the author of the input document. Custom properties are defined by the author.

Click the File tab. Click Info to view the document properties. To add or change properties, hover your pointer over the property you want to update and enter the information. Note that for some metadata, such as Author, you'll have to right-click on the property and choose Remove or Edit.

Ingly, a document can be either digital or nondigital. Different methods are used to store digital and nondigital documents. A nondigital or paper document can be physically stored in a file cabinet, whereas an electronic or digital document is stored in a computer as one or more files.

There are two types of process properties: Process Property components and dynamic process properties. Both types of process properties are used for the same purpose, but they are created differently. Process Property components are more powerful and are easier to work with.

Open your document in Microsoft Word. Go to the Insert tab on the Ribbon. Click on Quick Parts in the Text group. Choose Document Property and select Company from the drop-down list.

To add a control, click in the document where you want to add it, and then click the control you want to add on the Design tab. To set properties on a control or change an existing control, on the Developer tab, in the Controls group, click Properties.
