Waivers are a permission granted by the other teams in Major League Baseball to allow a team to proceed with a player move which would not normally be allowed by the rules.

Waivers Overview Waivers are the process by which owners can select from the pool of available players who are not on a team's roster in the league. They may have been undrafted or dropped by owners. Owners can put a claim for that player, but must wait a specified amount of time until the waiver clears.

How does the waiver wire work? When a player is on waivers, any team can place a claim on them if they want to add him to their 53-man roster. The team with the highest waiver wire priority acquires them and has to make a corresponding move to fit him on their 53-man roster.

The waiver priority is reset every week based on the standings. Lower-placed teams in the current standings will get the highest waiver priority at the beginning of each NFL week.

Waivers process daily sometime between 3 am to 5am ET. Once that time has passed, they either clear waivers, meaning no one has claimed them, or they enter the free-agent pool. The unclaimed players can now be acquired on a first-come, first-serve basis, without affecting your team's waiver position.
