A void transaction is one that is cancelled by you, the merchant, before it's settled with your payment provider. If you void a transaction, you won't pay any credit card processing costs (such as per-transaction fees), nor will your customer be charged for the amount of the purchase.

Basically, in order to void a transaction, you will have to stop processing the transaction before it settles with your merchant service provider or payment processor. If a transaction is voided before it is settled, the cardholder's bank won't charge (or debit) the cardholder's account for that purchase.

You can stop a pending debit card transaction by contacting the merchant and canceling the purchase. Or you can try contacting your bank if you don't recognize the transaction, you suspect fraud is involved, or the merchant is unresponsive.

An unsettled transaction can be only voided. Once a transaction has been settled it can only be refunded. Cancellation order means you can't modify any order further.

Once voided, the transaction should disappear from the customer's bank statement within 24 hours. Processing times may also vary depending on your bank or credit card company, but generally a void should never take more than four business days.
