If the information is not correctly transferred to the charts, this could result in a ship grounding, a risk of damage to property, a pollution incident or contravention of local laws. Additionally, if there is a casualty, the seaworthiness of the ship could be called into question.

To correct a chart, look up the number of the chart in the index at the front of the NTM, by the chart number there will be a list of all the corrections that relate to that chart. Each correction is given a number to identify it. You then need to look up the correction to discover the details.

From start up-Menu (on the left bottom section in chartco), click on Corrections. Click on ENC (top bar) and corrections (Right side bar). This list will show you the pending corrections to your active cells. Click on the ?Collect and transfer to ECDIS? at the bottom of the screen.

The easiest method to check if charts are up-to-date is to view the catalogue and check that the names of all required charts appear in green. The names of charts which are not up-to-date appear in orange. Chart Correction On ECDIS: Charts on ECDIS need to be updated and corrected on a regular basis.

Notices to Mariners (NtM) are corrections to nautical charts and publications. NtM only contain information which is vitally important to safety at sea. Mariners are obliged to keep their products up-to-date with NtM until a new edition is issued. NtM only apply to editions in force.

Admiralty Notices to Mariners or Weekly Notices serve the purpose of correcting and updating charts, which are being supplied to the vessels electronically or in paper format.

Major changes covering a large area will require a new edition of the chart to be published, but when small important changes can be made by hand on the chart, the corrections are issued as a Notice to Mariners (NM or Notam), or a stick on Notice to Mariners Block.
