"Ibid." (the abbreviation for "ibidem", meaning "in the same place") refers to the work cited in the preceding footnote or to the preceding work within the same footnote. The term should not be used when the preceding footnote includes more than one source.

A footnote appears at the bottom of the page, and an endnote appears at the end of a document.

Footnotes and Cross References Place your cursor at the point in the footnote where you want the note number to appear. Go to "References," then click "Cross-reference." Change the ?Reference type" dropdown to "Footnote" and leave the ?Insert as hyperlink? box checked.
