The Ghost Permit is also known as the Mail Owner Local Permit Number. Typically this can be the case if you are the mail preparer but not the mail owner. You may enter your permit number but then also add the virtual Mail Owner Local Permit Number to be populated in the Mail.

Permit imprint is simple and convenient - you save time because you're not affixing postage to each piece. You print the permit imprint when you print the rest of your mailpiece. If you already have a mailpiece printed without the permit imprint, you can use a rubber stamp.

Instead of using precanceled stamps or a postage meter, the mailer prints postage information in the upper right corner of the mailpiece. This postage block is called an "indicia." Here's a sample of what a permit imprint indicia looks like. The indicia are printed onto each mailpiece.

You must have a valid Business Reply Mail permit before you can mail. You may apply for a BRM permit at any time by filling out PS Form 3615, Mailing Permit Application and Customer Profile, and paying the annual permit fee.

The indicia must be placed in a clear area that is free from any other text, graphics or markings. The actual size of the indicia must be a minimum of one-half inch high by one-half inch wide. It must be placed no more than 1.5 inches below, or to the left of, the upper right hand corner of your postcard.

You must pay USPS a one-time fee for a "permit imprint authorization" before you can use an indicia for most types of bulk mail. The fee is currently $310. There is no fee for using bulk mail stamps instead. The barcode on mail has nothing to do with paying the postage.

A commercial mail permit is a permit you must obtain before you qualify for bulk mail discounts on postage. A ?permit imprint? is something you use in place of a stamp to handle bulk mail postage payment (see below for more details).
