The vast majority of 988 callers are served by the helpline directly, through which Massachusetts' 988 centers work collaboratively with callers to provide compassionate support. Lifeline specialists provide compassionate, non judgmental listening.

988 is a free, confidential help line for New York City residents. You can call 24 hours a day/7 days a week. The staff of trained mental health professionals help callers find mental health and substance abuse services. 988 is multilingual and multicultural.

Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services says less than 2% of current calls to the Suicide Prevention Lifeline require connection to an emergency service such as 911.

The 988 Lifeline was established to improve access to immediate support to meet the nation's growing mental health, suicide, and substance use distress needs.

Lifeline services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at no cost to the caller. Trained 988 counselors located at 13 PA crisis call centers can immediately provide phone-based support and/or connections to local resources.
