Not all graduation gowns may come equipped with easy-access pockets, which can be difficult if you are trying to contact your family after the ceremony. But many stoles are designed to have pockets on the other side ? perfect for securing your phone and wallet!

There are no secure places to store personal items before or during the ceremony. Small personal items such as phones and wallets must be carried in a pocket or a small purse held under the gown.

Wear bike shorts underneath that have a pocket or just tuck it in, but make sure they're tight enough so it won't slip out. I wore a small cross body bag under my graduation gown. Small enough for my phone, keys, and a credit card.

Handbags are not part of the academic regalia; if you must bring one, you can leave it at your seat in the Chan Centre Concert Hall. Some prefer to bring a very small one with a shoulder strap that can be worn underneath the gown.

It's perfectly fine to have your phone on your person, as you'll likely want to take photos and videos of your friends. And, of course, a few selfies. But you really shouldn't be using it during the ceremony to check social media or anything else that's not essential.
