It is known that bullets can ricochet off a body of water.

Is a bullet safe to hold? Bullets are inert chunks of lead, or brass or copper, these don't spontaneously explode. Cartridges are a combination of case, propellant, primer & bullet, these don't spontaneously explode especially if they are center fire cartridges.

It takes a good amount of moisture and humidity to do so, and it usually happens in the case of repeat exposure ? but it is certainly possible. If this does happen, the primer will be deactivated as well as the propellant charge, which makes the ammunition completely useless.
