Sort Required Field Text For Free

Sorting by text fields in Elasticsearch can be problematic because text fields are analyzed, meaning they are broken down into individual s. This process makes it difficult to sort the data in a meaningful way, as the s are not stored in their original order.

Tip: If your header row is text, but you want to order columns by numbers, you can add a new row above your data range and add numbers ing to the order you want them. To sort by value, select one of the options from the Order drop-down: For text values, select A to Z or Z to A.

Open the report in Report View or Layout View. On the Home tab, in the Sort & Filter group, click Advanced and then click Advanced Filter/Sort on the shortcut menu. A new document tab appears, containing a design grid and a window in which you can select a field on which to sort.

The sort is defined on a per field level, with special field name for _score to sort by score, and _doc to sort by index order. _doc has no real use-case besides being the most efficient sort order. So if you don't care about the order in which documents are returned, then you should sort by _doc .

Avoid using the term query for text fields. By default, Elasticsearch changes the values of text fields as part of analysis. This can make finding exact matches for text field values difficult. To search text field values, use the match query instead.

Click and drag the field you want to sort by first to the first column of your datasheet. (You can also select the fields by clicking on the first row of any column in the datasheet, and using the drop-down menu.) From the row marked ?Sort? in the datasheet's first column, select ?Ascending ? or ?Descending?.

By default, Elasticsearch sorts the results based on the relevance score, which is calculated using the Lucene scoring formula. However, there are cases where you might want to sort the results based on other criteria, such as a specific field value or a custom sorting logic.
