Enrolling a child in a Texas charter school is a two-step process: application for admission and then enrollment in the charter school. Application for admission is completed using the statewide common admission application, known as the Charter Student Admission Application (CSAA).

All state-chartered schools in Texas are authorized by TEA and serve as their own Local Education Agency (LEA). They are required to meet higher standards for academic and financial performance than traditional school districts.

Charter schools are public schools. Charter schools are free, open to all students and have no special entrance requirements. They are accountable to their board members, the Texas Education Agency and the public on the same academic and financial standards that apply to traditional public schools.

Despite some myths, charters in Texas are held to a higher standard than traditional public schools. Since they are publicly funded, they must follow the regulations that apply to public schools, but in addition, they're also held accountable by their charter.

Charter Schools are more flexible than traditional public schools and can use strategies and more individualized learning plans that other schools might not be able to.

In the same way that traditional ISDs are operated -- Public Charter Schools are monitored and accredited under the same state-wide testing and accountability system.
