On the Tools menu, click Trust Center, and then click E-mail Security. Under Digital IDs (Certificates), click Get a Digital ID. Click Get an S/MIME certificate from an external Certification Authority, and then click OK.

In the subject line, include the word ?secure? in square brackets. Any capitalization will work. The subject line may contain other text as well. In the body of the email, type your message.

On the File tab, click Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings. On the E-mail Security tab, under Encrypted e-mail, select the Encrypt contents and attachments for outgoing messages check box. To change additional settings, such as choosing a specific certificate to use, click Settings.

Use S/MIME to send and receive encrypted messages in the Mail app in iOS Open the Settings app. Choose Mail > Accounts. Select the account that has messages that you want to encrypt by default. Choose Account > Advanced > Encrypt by Default, then turn on Encrypt by Default.
