Including a date range for each job listed in the experience section of your resume is recommended to show employers how much experience you have in each role. You should include the starting month and year as well as the ending month and year. You do not need to be so specific as to include the day of the month.

As hiring managers review your resume, they search for dates to make sure you've received the required years of experience they've listed on their job posting. Therefore, you should mention the dates you've worked next to the job title and location of employment.

It is recommended that you right justify resume dates in line with job titles. As we stated earlier, aligning your resume dates on the left puts a lot of emphasis on the dates rather than the work experience and organizations you worked for, which can be a little confusing to most hiring managers.

Using exact dates clutters up a resume. Unless you are asked to provide exact dates (usually a feature only seen on online fill-in forms) use months and years. Employment dates expressed in years only is also acceptable and beneficial if you have short gaps in employment.

You should include a one-month job on your resume if you made a valuable contribution during that time, and the experience is relevant to the job that you're now seeking. If, however, you did not do much in the position and did not even really learn anything about the job, then it is okay to leave it off.

Spell out months when listing them on your resume. Do not abbreviate, such as Dec. 2009. Instead write the full December 2009. Add your month and year of graduation from any academic programs or when you received any certifications, such as September 2005.

If you have more than 10 to 15 years of experience, put your education at the bottom of your resume without a graduation date. If you have five to seven years of experience, put your education at the bottom of the resume with your graduation date.
