Ing to the APA (2020), the tables and figures can be placed in one of two areas of a paper: 1) with each table or figure on a separate page following the reference list (tables first, followed by figures), or 2) embed each table or figure into the text following the first callout (p. 198).

The title is one double-space below the table number in italicized font. The caption is descriptive, double-spaced, and appears immediately underneath the table or figure. The caption begins with the word Note. in italics, followed by a description, the source information, and the copyright information at the end.

Each table and figure must be labeled with an identifying number. Tables and figures should be numbered in separate series. For each table and figure, the title/number and full caption should be identical to how it appears in the text.

"Show" is generally a safe verb to use to describe a table or figure, but beware of overusing it or using it too loosely. Good alternatives to "show" include "display," "demonstrate," "illustrate," "depict" (for figures), and "list" (for tables). As always, search for the best verb to describe your figure or table.
