No guarantee Six Nations residents qualify for $8 billion drinking water settlement. Six Nations says it is working hard to make sure community members can easily qualify for a piece of the $8 billion drinking water settlement from the Canadian government. But there is no guarantee they will qualify.

The First Nations Drinking Water Settlement provides compensation for eligible First Nations and individuals impacted by long-term drinking water advisories that lasted continuously for at least one year between November 20, 1995, and June 20, 2021.

An individual's claim for compensation must be filed with the Drinking Water Settlement Administrator who will decide if the applicant is eligible. Eligible individuals will receive an estimated $1300 ? $2000 per year of eligibility.

There are different types of compensation included in the settlement. The $8 billion settlement includes: $1.8 billion in compensation to individuals and Impacted First Nation(s);

For Impacted First Nations to accept the settlement, they must submit a Band Council Acceptance Resolution (BCAR) to the Administrator at firstnationswater@deloitte.ca or by mail at PO Box 160 Station Adelaide, Toronto, ON M5C 2J2.
