'All India Radio' is a name of radio channel, operated by Govt. While FM is a technology used to transmit different radio channel. Previously, All india radio- AIR was using AM (amplitude modulation) only to broadcast media; this was prone to interference.

FM is short for frequency modulation, which refers to the means of encoding the audio signal on the carrier frequency. FM full power, low power, translator and booster stations operate in the 88 ? 108 MHz band.

The difference is in how the carrier wave is modulated, or altered. With AM radio, the amplitude, or overall strength, of the signal is varied to incorporate the sound information. With FM, the frequency (the number of times each second that the current changes direction) of the carrier signal is varied.

If you want to start a community radio station, you must fill & submit the community radio application form to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in the prescribed format for the issuance of a letter of intent for the establishment of a community radio station in India.

To start an FM radio station in India, you will need to obtain a license from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. This process can take up to 2 years and the cost can range from Rs. 1.5 million to Rs. 8.5 million.

2.9. At present, FM Radio broadcasting in 88-108 MHz frequency band is permitted to All India Radio (AIR); private sector FM Radio broadcasters; and Community Radio Station (CRS) operators. AIR is the public service broadcaster under Prasar Bharti.

To do so, you must obtain MIB's consent (Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Govt. of India). Except for the MIB, no one else has the authority to grant this license. You can begin your broadcast on the frequency once you receive the WPC's final approval (Radio FM).
