Resolution Set Using a POST Function Locate your Workflow: > Issues > Workflows. Click Edit under Actions for your workflow. Select your "Done" transition, and Click POST Functions. Click 'Add POST Function > Select 'Update Issue Field' Select Resolution for Issue Field and the appropriate Field Value.

Switch to the Diagram mode, click on the Create transition, and then click on the Validators link: Click on the Add Validator button, and from the list of Validators that shows up, select the 'Fields Required' validator, and then choose the Epic Link field as the required field.

To make a field mandatory when used through Jira's user interface, click the Required link associated with that field. The text Required appears next to the field's name. Hidden fields cannot be set as required.

Resolution is a special field in JIRA. It has an initial value of 'Unresolved', which means the field is NULL in the database. It is ALWAYS required when it appears on the screen. ONLY display it on the screen during a transition to the status where you want it set.

Click Configure next to the field configuration you wish to edit. You will see ?Required? next to fields that have already been marked required. Click Optional to remove this requirement. To make an optional, visible field required, simply find the field and click Required.

Remove it from the "edit" screen. If the field is not on the edit screen, it cannot be edited by the end user, but it can still appear on view screens, and in search and reporting etc.

This work around worked for me. Remove the Resolution field from all views but the Closed screen. Remove the default value for the Resolution field. Set a Validator up so that the Resolution field must be changed when transitioning to Closed.
