The intent of the regulation is to ensure the agricultural leaseholder has the ability to protect and care for the land and their livestock, while allowing some recreational access to the land. What does the regulation say? Recreational users must contact you prior to entering the grazing lease.

An agricultural lease is a lease of provincial lands for agricultural purposes such as growing crops, grazing livestock, and harvesting hay. An agricultural leaseholder, therefore, leases Crown lands from the Alberta government for farm and ranch operations.

If you hunt on leased Crown Land, including grazing leases, even if no livestock are present, permission is still required from the lease holder (the Wildlife Act, Land Act and Trespass Act may all apply).

To lease or purchase public land as a first applicant, you must: Fill out an application to use public land (PDF 257 Kb). Such lands can be leased for residential, recreational, industrial, research, and other purposes. The application to lease should be made with the BC Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations, and Rural Development (FLNRORD). The lease term length varies depending on the intended use of the land.
