A packing service could add a couple of thousand dollars to your moving budget. If you need to take two weeks off work in order to get the house packed and organized, though, it may be worth the price.

Tell your bank/credit card provider/loan company of your change of address. Inform both your life insurer and your car insurance provider of your new address, but make sure your car insurance details aren't scheduled to change until the day you move in.

Use up food from the refrigerator, freezer, and pantry. Get the word out to friends and family members that you're moving.
