With computers, to move is to permanently transfer text, data, or files from one location to another without duplicating them.

Launch Finder from the Dock and browse for the file that you want to move. The various locations on your Mac show up on the left pane in Finder. Simply drag and drop the file or folder in the location you desire. This drag and drop method can be used to move and store files in folders.

Press-and-hold Ctrl, then drag the file or folder to the desktop. An icon for the file or folder is added to the desktop. The file or folder is copied to your desktop directory. Alternatively, select the file or folder, then choose Edit -> Copy Files.

You can move a file or folder from one folder to another by dragging it from its current location and dropping it into the destination folder, just as you would with a file on your desktop. Folder Tree: Right-click the file or folder you want, and from the menu that displays click Move or Copy.

Click on the first file you want to move, then hold down Ctrl (or Cmd) and then click on the other files you want to move. The ones that you have chosen will be highlighted in blue. Or if the files you want are all together, click on the top one, hold down the Shift key, then click on the bottom one.

Moving a file or folder on the same disk relocates it whereas dragging it from one disk to another copies it so that it appears in both locations. When the destination folder or drive is not visible, you can use the Cut (to move), Copy, and Paste commands on the Edit menu to move or copy the items.

Key Difference: Copy is to make a copy of the selected file or folder and place the duplicate in another drive or folder, while move is to move the original files from one place to another location. The move command deletes the original files, while copy retains them.
