Your LSAT scores will automatically become a part of your report after you take them (you need at least one score on file before the CAS can start sending your reports). When you submit your application to a law school, the school will request your report from the CAS.

The CAS, previously known as LSDAS, is a service provided by LSAC, the producers of the LSAT. Almost all ABA-approved law schools require the use of CAS reports in the admissions process.The CAS is required by law schools because it standardizes much of the information relevant to making admission decisions.

LSAC recommends that applicants sign up and pay for CAS at least 46 weeks before they plan to submit applications. Applicants should also try to submit their transcripts and letters of recommendation to LSAC several weeks before applying to law school.

CAS validates the client's authenticity, usually by checking a username and password against a database (such as Kerberos, LDAP or Active Directory). If the authentication succeeds, CAS returns the client to the application, passing along a service ticket.

It costs $200 to take the LSAT and receive one free score report. In addition, subscription to the Credential Assembly Service (CAS) is required for application for most law schools. This subscription costs $195 and includes one free score report. Additional score reports cost $45.

If You Don't Have an LSAT Score on Record When Submitting Your Application. Schools will not review your app until they receive a Law School Report. They request this from LSAC upon receiving a student's application. LSAC does not send out until it is complete, which means it needs an LSAT score.

Top-five law schools: 170 to 180. Schools like Harvard and Yale, which are the top two, rarely accept applicants with less than 172 on the LSAT. Law schools ranked between 5 and 10: 165 to 170.
