Lock Up Chart Record For Free

You may view your own electronic medical record (EMR) in Epic. However, you may not alter your own medical record. Alterations include, but are not limited to: Updating provider, contact, or insurance information.

Epic uses locking to prevent data corruption?conflicting information being documented or overwritten (two users changing the same order at the same time)?and to prevent potential duplicate entries and clinical errors (two users placing the same order for the same patient).

Now that you're live on Epic it's essential to understand how to close encounters within 24 hrs. After a successful encounter, close it by finding that encounter in your ?In Basket,? go to ?My Open Encounters? and click on the ?Sign Encounter? button near the top right.

From the ?Epic? menu in the command toolbar, select ?Secure? from the drop down list. You can also secure your session from the toolbar. Once your screen is secured, all patient records you had open will be locked. It is important to close all patient charts prior to securing your session.

Select the Home tab and hover over each type of event in the Event Monitor section to review recent events for your patients. Select the In Basket message for the patient's event and click Select Patient to open the patient's chart.
