Form I-864EZ, Affidavit of Support, is a shorter and simpler version of Form I-864, Affidavit of Support.Form I-864 or Form I-864EZ is legally required for many family-based immigrants to show that the intending immigrant has adequate means of financial support and is not likely to become a public charge.

The most common minimum annual income required to sponsor a spouse or family member for a green card is $21,775. This assumes that the sponsor the U.S. citizen or current green card holder is not in active military duty and is sponsoring only one relative.

For example, in 2021, a sponsor in the U.S. mainland would need to have income (or assets) of at least $33,125 to cover a petitioner who lives alone and is sponsoring one immigrant and two children (that is, a total of four people).

Who Completes Form I-864EZ? Only the U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or U.S. national who filed Form I-130 for a family member, may complete this affidavit. A sponsor is required to be at least 18 years of age and domiciled in the United States, its territories, or possessions.

Eligibility Criteria to Become a Sponsor You must be a United States citizen or a permanent resident. Immigrants with any other visa status cannot sponsor a person in the US. You must be at least 18 years old at the time of filing the Form I-130. You should have your domicile in the US or any of its territories.
