Withdrawing money from a revocable trustIf you establish a revocable living trust, you may decide to act as the trustee.As part of this arrangement, the grantor-trustee can typically withdraw money from the trust as they see fit, since they are the owner of the trust and retain an interest in it until they die.

With an irrevocable trust, the assets that fund the trust become the property of the trust, and the terms of the trust direct that the trustor no longer controls the assets.Because the assets within the trust are no longer the property of the trustor, a creditor cannot come after them to satisfy debts of the trustor.

Another downside of living trusts is that transferring assets can be both time-consuming and complicated. If you hold a variety of assets, you'll need to contact your different banks and agents to have everything you own moved over -- a process that could involve a fair amount of paperwork.

The trustee is legally obligated to follow the terms of the trust document, and if they don't like if they steal or mismanage funds they can be removed from their position. A trust beneficiary can file a petition with the probate court for removal of a trustee.

The first step in dissolving a revocable trust is to remove all the assets that have been transferred into it. The second step is to fill out a formal revocation form, stating the grantor's desire to dissolve the trust.
