Illinois residents started receiving payments Friday as part of a multi-million dollar class-action settlement involving Google.

The potential payout is the result of a class-action lawsuit that alleges Google improperly shared users' search queries and histories with third-party websites and companies. Google is settling the suit for $23 million without admitting any wrongdoing.

As part of a legal settlement, Google agreed to pay $23 million to users who clicked on a search link from 2006 to 2013. Individual payments are estimated to be less than $8.

Then you submit a claim by providing your new ID number and other contact information. Money also notes that applicants could get an average of $7.70 per claim, owing to the massive number of potential claimants and the relatively smaller settlement size.

To file a claim, you need to complete a registration form and receive a Class Member ID. Claims must be filed online or postmarked by p.m. PT on July 31, 2023. The deadline to object to or be excluded from the settlement is also July 31.

How to claim Google settlement money. Before you make a claim, you'll need to register a ?class member ID? via the settlement administrator handling claims. Once you've received your ID number from the administrator, enter it in the ?submit claim? page of the settlement's website.

Under the Settlement, Google will pay $23 million to make payments to settlement class members who file claims, payments to class representatives, attorneys' fees, litigation costs, and settlement administration costs related to the Settlement.
