If the section break just before the insertion point is a Continuous section break, press Ctrl+Enter to insert a page break. Display the Insert tab of the ribbon. Click the Header tool in the Header & Footer group, and then click Edit Header. The header is displayed and the insertion point is within it.

Page breaks are used when you don't want to add any more content to a certain page. For example, when you are starting a new section of a report or a new chapter of a book. It can also be used when you don't have enough space on the current page to insert, let's say, a table.

The page breaks partition only the body text of the document, whereas the section breaks partition both the body text of the document, as well as partition page margins, headers and footers, page numbers, and the like.

A page break or hard page break is a code inserted by a software program (e.g., word processor) telling the printer where to end the current page and begin the next. After inserting the Page Break, a symbol indicating the Page Break is shown, and the cursor is placed on the next page. Tip.

You can't just insert a page break in a PDF file. It's not meant to be edited in such a way. If you have the original file then edit it and then generate a new PDF.

You can also insert a manual page break anytime you want to start a new page in your document. Put your cursor where you want one page to end and the next to begin. Go to Insert > Page Break.

By inserting next page section breaks you can control pagination, as well as isolating and controlling the layout and setup of the pages in each section, such as page numbering, headers and footers, page orientation and the vertical alignment of text.
