As hiring managers review your resume, they search for dates to make sure you've received the required years of experience they've listed on their job posting. Therefore, you should mention the dates you've worked next to the job title and location of employment.

Provide the dates of employment for each company you worked for. You can include the month and year or simply the year, depending on your work history. Exact dates are not necessary. This is typically right-justified beside your job title or company name, though it can also be placed under your job title.

Using exact dates clutters up a resume. Unless you are asked to provide exact dates (usually a feature only seen on online fill-in forms) use months and years. Employment dates expressed in years only is also acceptable and beneficial if you have short gaps in employment.

While you might not include every job in your past on a traditional resume, it is appropriate to include your entire work history on LinkedIn.Employers expect your resume to be somewhat condensed and specific to the job you seek. But your LinkedIn Profile should be more vast and complete.

Log onto LinkedIn.com. Click the Me icon and select View Profile. Click the Pencil icon on the Summary section. Near the bottom of the editing interface, find the resume file under the Media section. Click on the document. Now the text Delete This Media will appear beneath the file.

When adding months on a resume, spell out the month name. As a rule, you should not be abbreviating months on a resume. If you choose to only put years on your resume, be consistent. Do not try to hide gaps.
