Fix Resolution For Free

If your monitor is having problems with resolution, it's probably your graphics card! If you're getting a display, but it isn't displaying properly, it's probably just a matter of updating your graphics card's driver. If you're not getting a display at all, find your monitor in these guides and see if there's a fix.

In the Control Panel window, click System, and then click Display. Select the monitor that you want to change, if more than one monitor is connected to your computer. Click the Resolution drop-down box to see a list of recommended resolutions for that display. Click the resolution that you want, and then click Apply.

If you are using an HDMI Expansion Card and are connected to a 1080p external monitor or TV, you may experience an issue in Windows where it is detected as a generic LCD flat panel, which defaults to a maximum resolution of 640x480.

Open Windows Display Settings. Right-click on the Desktop and select Display Settings. Select the display you want to change. Under Display resolution, select the desired resolution.

Incorrect Resolution Settings Resolution can often change by itself on Windows because of a corrupted graphics driver, a new Windows update, or a conflicting third-party app. If this is the case with your display, you can easily fix it by changing the resolution settings.

Go to your desktop and right-click on any empty space. From the context menu, choose Display settings to open the Settings app. Click on the drop-down menu under the Display resolution header to view all resolutions compatible with your system. Change it to the resolution you want.
