If you'd like to renew your CA driver's license over the phone, you may call the number given on the renewal notice. You will need: Your Renewal Identification Card Number (RIN) from your renewal document. A credit or debit card for payment of the $34 for the non-commercial class A and B and $35 fee for a Class C.

For an expired license you can still renew online, in person or by mail. There are no late fees. Remember, it is illegal for you to drive until your license is renewed. Also, if you're a commercial driver and your CDL has been expired over two (2) years, you'll need to take the road skills test again.

If more than two years has passed since your driving licence expired, you may be made to retake your driving test in order to get a new licence. This is especially the case if your licence has expired due to age (driving licences need to be renewed when you reach seventy years of age) or for medical reasons.

The good news is that's all you have to do. You won't have to retake the drivers test if your current drivers license is still valid.
