For a regular faxing, you just need to enter the number or choose a recipient from your contacts. But to send faxes with extension dialing, you must add between the number and the extension in order to have the extension dialing.

Obtain a telephone cord. Connect the phone cord to the phone wall jack and to the 1-LINE jack on the back of the printer. If you have an answering machine, connect a phone cord to the machine and to the 2-EXT jack on the rear of the printer. Set up fax settings and preferences.

Write the area code of the fax number. Place the area code in parentheses, though this is not necessary. Write a hyphen or period after the last number in the area code with no spaces before it if you choose not to use parentheses. Write the three-digit prefix of the fax number.
