Excise Fax License For Free

Excise taxes are narrowly based taxes on consumption, levied on specific goods, services, and activities. They can be either a per unit tax (such as the per gallon tax on gasoline) or a percentage of price (such as the airline ticket tax).

General Excise Tax License. Anyone who receives income from conducting business activities in the State of Hawaii including, but not limited to: wholesaling, retailing, farming, services, construction contracting, rental of personal or real property, business interest income, and royalties.

Because the general excise tax is imposed on you (the business), it is an ordinary and necessary cost of doing business that can be claimed as a business expense deduction on your income tax return. IMPORTANT: The general excise tax you pay may NOT be taken as credit against your income tax liability.

You must file monthly if you will pay more than $4,000 in GET per year. You may file quarterly if you will pay $4,000 or less in GET per year. You may file semiannually if you will pay $2,000 or less in GET per year.

Hawaii does not have a sales tax; instead, we have the GET, which is assessed on all business activities. The tax rate is 0.15% for Insurance Commission, 0.5% for Wholesaling, Manufacturing, Producing, Wholesale Services, and Use Tax on Imports For Resale, and 4% for all others.

Excise tax is a flat-rate tax that applies to specific goods, services, and activities. In the U.S., goods like alcohol and services like indoor tanning are assessed an excise tax, which applies to each unit or occurrence regardless of its cost.

A 2% contractor's excise tax is imposed on the gross receipts of all prime and subcontractors engaged in construction services or reality improvement projects. The work must be for the utility company and the prime contractor must receive payment directly from the utility company to be taxed under SDCL 10-46B.
