A digital receipt is a paperless option that summarizes your restaurant bill and payment method. Rather than receiving a printed, paper receipt after your meal, a digital receipt allows you to receive this information on your phone via text or as an email receipt to your inbox.

I've received both customer and merchant copies of a receipt, and it makes no difference who gets which copy. As long as both parties receive each a copy of the transaction, then it doesn't matter which copy you sign.
