Dispose Text Permit For Free

The HCCRF accepts a range of items, including household cleaners, oil-based paints, solvents, cell phones, compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs), computers and related equipment to name a few. It does NOT accept business/commercial sector wastes, explosives, fireworks or latex paint.

Throw the dried paint, cans and other materials in with household garbage at curb side pick up or one of our Collection Sites. Leave lids off cans so trash collectors can see that paint is dry and accept them. For small amounts of leftover paint, remove the lid and let the pain dry in the can.

Ithaca Times Daily Trash disposal punch cards, which are used to pay for the disposal of five bags or cans of trash, will now cost $15. Disposal fees for residents and haulers will increase to $96 per ton. The flat tier rates will remain unchanged at $15 for 0-333lbs., $30 for 334-666 lbs., and $45 for 667-1000 lbs.

To dispose of oil-based paint, store it until paint can be taken to one of the long-term Household Hazardous Waste facilities located in Naperville, Rockford or Chicago. Information is available on the Illinois EPA web site at .epa.state.il.us or by calling 217-785-8604.

Landfill. The following are items that may be safely disposed of in a landfill. For items such as glue or paint that need to be dried or solidified for disposal, you may spread the waste on newspaper or an old rag. Let the material dry or solidify completely before putting into the trash.

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collections are conducted by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) and are available to all Illinois residents. The IEPA provides information on their collection program, along with a complete schedule of upcoming collection events.

Dry it up: Use kitty litter, shredded paper or sawdust to absorb the remaining paint, or pour the paint into a bag. After it dries, throw the bag or absorbant material away and recycle the empty can. Donate it: Ask friends and neighbors if they need paint for a small project.
