Add a watermark in Microsoft Word On the Page Layout tab, in the Page Background group, click Custom Watermark. Choose one of the watermarks listed or click Custom Watermark. Click Text watermark. Select the text you want from the Text list, or type the text that you want to display.

On the Design tab, select Watermark. In the Insert Watermark dialog, select Text and either type your own watermark text or select one, like DRAFT, from the list. Then, customize the watermark by setting the font, layout, size, colors, and orientation. If you don't see the watermark, click View > Print Layout.

It is possible that your text is in a shape or a table that has a white background that blocks the watermark. Watermarks are images that are in the header. The header acts like a base layer for your text. If there is something in the text layer that blocks it, you will not see it.

Watermark placement can be tricky. You want to place it carefully so it protects your image but doesn't detract the viewer from the photo. Ideally, you should place it in the center of the image, but never on a solid or smooth background. Otherwise, it will be too easy for someone to remove it completely.
