Add footnotes and endnotes Click where you want to add the footnote. Click Insert > Insert Footnote. Word inserts a reference mark in the text and adds the footnote mark at the bottom of the page. Type the footnote text.

How to Do Chicago Style Footnotes in Word Place your cursor in the body text where you want the footnote superscript to appear. Select the References tab in the ribbon toolbar. Select Chicago on the Style dropdown menu in the Citations and Bibliography section. Click Insert Footnote.

First, you should check the obvious formatting-related issues. Are some of your footnotes formatted as Hidden text? If they are and you have Word configured to not print Hidden text, the footnotes will not be visible in Print Preview. You'll also want to check to make sure that Track Changes isn't turned on.

When using either type of footnote, insert a number formatted in superscript following almost any punctuation mark. Footnote numbers should not follow dashes ( ? ), and if they appear in a sentence in parentheses, the footnote number should be inserted within the parentheses.

To locate the footnote Style; From the Home tab, in the Styles group (Style Gallery) Click the Dialog box launcher icon (1) in the bottom right corner of the group (See diagram).With the text in the Footnote selected, you should see the style (Footnote Text) highlighted (3) with a blue box around it.?

Click any note in your document. Blue boxes appear around all the notes in the document. In the Format sidebar, click the Footnotes tab. Click the Type pop-up menu and choose a note type.

To search for a footnote, follow these steps: Press Ctrl+F to display the Find tab of the Find and Replace dialog box. (See Figure 1.) In the Find What box, enter the text for which you want to search. To search for a footnote mark, enter ^f.Set other searching parameters, as desired. Click on Find Next.
