Display Footnote Release For Free

Switch to Draft view (View > Draft) and then click Show Notes on the References tab. You should then see the footnotes in a separate pane. If the Show Notes command is greyed out, the document doesn't contain any footnotes.

First, you should check the obvious formatting-related issues. Are some of your footnotes formatted as Hidden text? If they are and you have Word configured to not print Hidden text, the footnotes will not be visible in Print Preview. You'll also want to check to make sure that Track Changes isn't turned on.

Click the reference number or mark in the body of the text or click Insert > Show Footnotes(for endnotes, click Insert > Show Endnotes).

If you want to delete the footnote (that's at the bottom of the page), delete the number ?1? in the body. When you do that, the footnote itself disappears. Another way you can do this is to right-click the footnote at the bottom of the page, select Go to Footnote and then delete the number there.

The difference between a Footnote and an Endnote is where they are displayed in the document. A footnote appears at the bottom of the page, and an endnote appears at the end of a document. Both references are created similarly. There's no need to type the note's number, it's done automatically.
