Select Insert > Page Number, and then choose the location and style you want. If you don't want a page number to appear on the first page, select Different First Page. If you want numbering to start with 1 on the second page, go to Page Number > Format Page Numbers, and set Start at to 0.

To do this, go to the page where you want numbering to start and click "Layout" then click "Breaks" and "Next Page." Double-click the header or footer where you want the page numbers to appear, and in the menu that pops up, uncheck the "Link to Previous" button, then click "Page Number" and pick the settings you want.

Place the cursor at the start of the first line on the page where you want to stop, start, or change page numbering. Click Layout to display the Layout tab. Click Breaks, and then click Next Page. On the page after the section break, double-click in the header or footer area where you want to display page numbers.

Click in the section that you want to change. On the Format menu, click Document, and then click the Layout tab. On the Section start pop-up menu, click the kind of section break that you want.

When an even-page section break is inserted, Word will skip to the next even-numbered page if necessary to start on an even-number. On screen it just looks like a page number was skipped. Click on the Layout tab. Select Breaks 2192 Sections Breaks 2192 Next Page. Put the cursor on the page where the page numbering should start (that is section two in the document). Click on the Insert tab and Page Number.
