Select the cells which contain the drop down lists you have already created, and then click Data > Data Validation > Data Validation. See screenshot: 2. There are two drop-down box options in Word. The Drop-Down List is to allow the reader to select one of the options you specify. The Combo Box includes the answers you specify, but also gives readers the opportunity to type their own option.

Select a cell or cells that reference your Excel Data Validation list, i.e. cells containing a drop-down box that you want to edit. Click Data Validation (Excel ribbon > Data tab). Delete or type new items in the Source box. Click OK to save the changes and close the Excel Data Validation window.

You can't create a drop down list in Excel without using the Data Validation feature. Think of Data Validation is a restriction or limitation that Excel applies to the cells you specify. You can choose the criteria, of course.
