The notes, which are found to be deliberately cut, torn, altered or tampered with, if presented for payment of exchange value should be rejected under Rule 6(3)(ii) of the Reserve Bank of India (Note Refund) Rules, 2009.

Mutilated Notes Refund value of these notes is, however, paid as per RBI(Note Refund) Rules. These can also be exchanged at the counters of any public sector bank branch, any currency chest branch of a private sector bank or any Issue Office of the RBI without filling any form.

A note which gets dirty over time and is torn is called a soiled note and when the note is split into more than two pieces or is torn is called a mutilated note. Soiled and mutilated notes can be exchanged with new notes by the bank.

Step 1 ? Visit the nearest bank branch with Rs 2000 notes available with you. Step 2- Fill in the requisition slip, enter the details required to facilitate the exchange process of Rs 2000 notes. Step 3: Submit the slip along with Rs 2000 notes to be exchanged with other denominations.
