Currency futures contracts are, by default, cash settled. That means just the profits / losses are adjusted to the client account. This applies to Rupee Currency Futures and also to Cross Currency Futures. The settlement amount for a Clearing (TCM / CM / PCM) is netted across all their TMs and clients.

There are two types of currency options: calls and puts. Buying a call option gives the holder the right to buy a currency pair for the strike price on or before the expiry date, and buying a put option gives the holder the right to sell a currency pair for the strike price on or before the expiry date.

Forward contracts are contracts between two parties the buyers and sellers. Under the contract, a specified asset is agreed to be traded at a later date at a specified price. For example, you enter into a contract to sell 100 units of a computer to another party after 2 months at Rs. 50,000 per unit.

Hedging currency risk of developed countries can give you a slight positive or negative return over 10 years, a lot larger gains or losses over 5 years and even more so over one year. If you want to avoid all currency profits or losses you must follow a strict hedging strategy and stick to it.

Currency futures contract is a contract with which one buys or sells a specific foreign currency for delivery at a designated price in the future. Currency option is the right to buy or sell a foreign currency at a specified price through a specified date.

A call option provides the buyer with the right to buy a currency at the strike price. A put option provides the buyer with the right to sell a currency at the strike price. Buying a call on USD is the same as buying a put on the CAD because in both cases, the buyer is selling CAD for USD.

Currency Derivatives are available on four currency pairs viz. US Dollars (USD), Euro (EUR), Great Britain Pound (GBP) and Japanese Yen (JPY). Cross Currency Futures & Options contracts on EUR-USD, GBP-USD and USD-JPY are also available for trading in Currency Derivatives segment.
