13 July 2023, New Delhi: Insecticides (India) Limited (IIL) has launched a new age insecticide called Mission, effective for control of different lepidopteran pests in crops like paddy, sugarcane, soybean, vegetables, etc.

The soil-applied systemic insecticide imidacloprid can control whitefly nymphs. Imidacloprid can have negative impacts on natural enemies, honey bees and other pollinators in the garden, especially when applied as a foliar spray or as a soil application to plants that are flowering or soon to be flowering.

Suspension concentrate (SC) formulations consist of having a solid active ingredient dispersed in water. SCs have grown in popularity due to benefits such as absence of dust, ease of use and effectiveness when compared to other formulation types such as emulsifiable concentrate (EC) and wettable powder (WP).

Horticultural oils, which work by smothering insects, are very effective on all stages of this pest.

An established method of control for glasshouse whitefly is to introduce tiny parasitoid wasps, Encarsia formosa, which prey on the whitefly scale nymphs. The parasitoid is available by mail order from the Biological control suppliers.
