The default value of the select element can be set by using the 'selected' attribute on the required option. This is a boolean attribute. The option that is having the 'selected' attribute will be displayed by default on the dropdown list.

The option to be removed is selected by getting the select box. The value to be removed is specified on the value selector (value='optionValue') on the select box. The remove() method is then used to remove this selected option. The find() method can be used to find the option in the value with the value selector.

A disabled option is unusable and un-clickable. The disabled attribute can be set to keep a user from selecting the option until some other condition has been met (like selecting a checkbox, etc.). Then, a JavaScript is required to remove the disabled value, and make the option selectable.
