Normal processing takes four to six weeks. Any remaining fees, including the building permit fee, are payable prior to issuance of the building permit, as well as school fees, if applicable. If needed, plumbing, electrical and mechanical permits can be issued with the building permit.

An applicant age 18 and older is issued an instruction permit valid for one year. If you are age 17 years and 3 months or older, you may apply for a permit without taking a driver education course.

Building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical permits are required to build a new house, and depending on the scope of work a grading permit may also be required. An estimated cost cannot be provided since the fees are based on the valuation of the proposed work.

Most emailed applications will be processed within 2 business days. Applications with Planning Department or Health Department holds (historic buildings, environmental contamination, etc.) may take several days or require additional information to review.

To apply, please complete a fence permit application and provide us with a copy of your plat of survey. You will need to tell us the fence location, style and height. Please allow for 3 to 5 business days for permits for fences, sheds, patios or driveways to be processed. The fee for a fence permit is $55.00.
