Complete Chart Permit For Free

Unlike paper charts which are only purchased once, until a new edition is published or a chart is cancelled, electronic charts are purchased through a license system called permits. Permits are used to control the permission to use a chart. They prevent unofficial copying and distribution.

3.5 Display Base means the chart content as listed in appendix 2 and which cannot be removed from the display. It is not intended to be sufficient for safe navigation. 3.6 Further information on ECDIS definitions may be found in IHO Hydrographic Dictionary Special Publication S-32 (see appendix 1).

The Base disc label contains the date and week of issue. After all the relevant Base discs have been installed, the ECDIS can now be updated.

The Cell Permit will be issued to each cell. Cell Permit will effectively function only for the ECDIS or the software having the User Permit provided at the time of ENC use contract. Since Cell Permit decrypts the encrypted ENC, any ENC cannot be displayed without Cell Permit.

The ECDIS will then install all of the licenced AVCS cells from the AVCS DVD. There are currently 9 AVCS Base CDs but this number will grow as more ENCs become available for distribution within AVCS. It is unlikely that users will need to install all of the CDs in order to load all licensed ENCs.

There are two types of electronic charts that an ECDIS can display: Raster Navigational Charts (RNCs) and Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs,) otherwise known as vector charts.

The sensors providing the data inputs to ECDIS are the following: The global positioning system (GPS and/or DGPS). The automatic identification system (AIS). The radar and automatic radar plotting aid (ARPA).
