Compile Numbers Title For Free

To compile your project, choose File > Compile. You'll see the Compile dialog. There's a lot going on in this screen, but for the purposes of this article, I'm only going to look at a few elements. First, the Compile For menu at the top is where you choose what type of file you want Scrivener to create.

With a standard word processor, if you want to move a scene, you have to find it, cut it, find the new location, then paste it. With Scrivener, you simple drag texts or folders in the Binder. Do you want to re-order chapters? Just drag the folder for chapter 7 above the one for chapter 6.

To do so, just double-click the title beside the folder and type in Chapter One, or whatever you wish. With the folder created and named to indicate the chapter, use the same method you used to create a new folder, but this time, from the right-click menu you will choose Add > New Text.

Win Tip: To get chapter numbers when you File > Compile, enter the <$n> tag into your chapter titles, or add it as a prefix during compile.

You can add your own section types by clicking + at the bottom of the pane, but for now, just stick which the default section types. If you click the Default Types by Structure tab, you'll see how the section types are applied to different elements in the Binder.
