Insert footnotes and endnotes Click where you want to reference to the footnote or endnote. On the References tab, select Insert Footnote or Insert Endnote. Enter what you want in the footnote or endnote. Return to your place in the document by double-clicking the number or symbol at the beginning of the note.

In both MLA and APA, a footnote example includes the citation found at the bottom, or foot, of the page corresponding to the superscript number found in the body of the work. Select the notes you want to convert, and then right-click....Word for Windows (2010 and 2007) Open the document and select the References tab. Click the Footnote & Endnote Dialog Box launcher (it appears as a small square in the bottom-right corner of the tab). Then click Convert.... Click OK or Apply.

Word doesn't renumber the footnotes because the footnote is still therealbeit marked for deletion. When the changes are accepted or rejected, then Word will renumber the footnotes accordingly.

A footnote is a reference placed at the bottom of a page or footer. They are referenced in the text in the same way as a citation i.e. the referenced text is followed by a superscript numeral (1), which corresponds to the numbered footnote at the bottom of the page.

Click Insert 2192 Reference 2192 Footnote... to open the "Footnote and Endnote" window. Select "Footnote", and then choose your numbering option. You can have Word number your footnotes automatically, or you can choose a custom symbol to insert.

Renumbering Existing Footnotes Make sure that Track Changes is not in use. Go to Insert> Footnote. Confirm that the Footnote option is selected. From the Number choices select Continuous. Confirm that Apply changes to specifies Whole document. Be sure to click Apply rather than Insert to close the dialog window.
