Classify Footnote Article For Free

Footnotes are notes placed at the bottom of a page. They cite references or comment on a designated part of the text above it. For example, say you want to add an interesting comment to a sentence you have written, but the comment is not directly related to the argument of your paragraph.

In a footnote referencing system, you indicate a reference by: Putting a small number above the line of type directly following the source material. This number is called a note identifier. It sits slightly above the line of text.

Bibliographic Notes MLA discourages extensive use of explanatory or digressive notes. MLA style does, however, allow you to use endnotes or footnotes for bibliographic notes, which refer to other publications your readers may consult.

The number of footnotes will ultimately depend on the nature of your subject. However, for those of you who like numbers, a twenty-five page research essay could contain anywhere between 20 and 75 footnotes. Again, it all depends on the subject.

To search for a footnote, follow these steps: Press Ctrl+F to display the Find tab of the Find and Replace dialog box. (See Figure 1.) In the Find What box, enter the text for which you want to search. To search for a footnote mark, enter ^f.Set other searching parameters, as desired. Click on Find Next.

Click Insert > Insert Footnote. Word inserts a reference mark in the text and adds the footnote mark at the bottom of the page. Type the footnote text.
